A laboratory technician works in a laboratory setting, performing a wide range of tests and procedures which are
designed to help physicians diagnose and treat a myriad of diseases and medical conditions. In order to get started
properly with this career, one has to first complete a training program, usually via a 2-year associate%u2019s degree course.
Once this has been completed, it is highly recommended that the
laboratory technician also acquire other important credentials in order to further broaden his employment
opportunities and salary thresholds. Although certification among lab technicians isn%u2019t generally required, a
significant number of employers nowadays prefer hiring applicants that have been certified by a professional
organization. Examples of these agencies include the Board of Registry of the American Society for Clinical Pathology
and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel. Besides this, lab technicians can also choose to pursue
further studies and specialize in a particular area of the lab.
